Maura Sheehan is Professor of International Management at NUI Galway. She is Associate Editor of both Human Resource Development Quarterly and the forthcoming Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance. She has a BSc in Economics from New York University and a PhD in Economics from the University of Notre Dame, USA.
Before coming to NUI Galway, she was a Reader at the University of Brighton (2007-2012) and was an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Management, University of Dallas (2000-2007). Maura was Director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Dallas where she worked with entrepreneurs, in particular women from the African American and Hispanic communities to start, grow and sustain their own businesses. From 1993-2000, Maura taught at the Queen’s University of Belfast. She taught at St Catharine’s College Cambridge, Birkbeck College, University of London and was a visiting research fellow at the ESRC Centre for Business Research, University of Cambridge. Maura’s research has been funded by the Leverhulme Trust; the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC); the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI); and the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD). Maura has worked as a consultant for numerous US companies, focussing mostly in the areas of implementing successful human resource management practices, talent management, etc. She also assisted in attracting funding for several start-up companies in the US and Northern Ireland. She served as a small business development consultant and economic regeneration consultant for the EU in Ireland and Lebanon and the UN in Palestine. Maura is a member of the British and American Academies of Management.
